    Engine torque twist

Right i know about torque and i know the reactions that come with it, with an engine, but with torque twist, ive noticed some engines will rock the same way as the engines rotation, and the others the opposite way...

Ive noticed its supercharged cars alot of the time rocking with the rotation of the engine..

But this is how ive always known torque twist though (below) every action has an opposite reaction kinda thing.

    Why the differences?

Solid motor mount ? Would mean the engine was part of the chassis so the softest part allowed to rotate around would be the tyres ? No idea if that's correct ,just a thought.

    sounds right to me,
with the falcon, the first place the power goes to is the soft motor mounts which absorb the torque,
but, with the solid mount race car the power goes right through the light weight frame until it finds the tyres,, i think?

They both react the same, just the engine is locked in position a lot tighter on the race car so less noticeable

Yeah but when the race car is revving, its a noticable twist the opposite way to the falcon. I didnt want to mention if its possibly the way the engines mounted because we are talking about power, and however the engines mounted, it will rock the same way...im trying to remember back to the way our a40s chassis rocked, im sure it was the same as the falcon, and the a40's v8 is solid mounted! but yeah it might be just me haha

I think what you're seeing is the second reaction i.e as the engine bounces back from the first reaction. Note also that the sound is slightly delayed, the video is poor quality too, so it's probably an illusion. I'm sure if you asked the chap who's revving it up, he'll say it goes left before it comes back to the right.

Dont forget that you'll get a torque reaction to both RPM acceleration and deceleration. When you lift the throttle it'll go the other way.

    Edit: Martin got there first!

Probably now you explain it like that! i dont want to sound cocky, im only 18 so you'l know more but why does a bounce back off torque twist as you say have the power to rock the chassis than the actual torque itsself? if that makes sense. thanks

Have a play with a drill with a heavy bit attachment.

Hold it lightly and watch how it rocks back and forth when you flick the power on

Then grip it tighter or lock it in a vice.

It's all simple physics. Look up Newton's 3rd law, and the equation f=ma.

No problems about asking the question Tom, it's all a part of the learning progress. If you don't ask, you'll never learn in life.
