Use a V61 cam , power band 1000-5500 so ideally suited to an automatic. Worth about 15 bhp but far more torque added.

It's from Kent cams, will be using one myself shortly.

While looking around I’ve found a Newman’s phase 1 cam ideal for autos for £220 plus £75 for cam followers, power band 2000-6000, has any one had any dealings with them?, but through burton £326 for a regrind of mine but a full kit of springs followers lube and cam, power band 1000-5500, would a regrind be any good or would you go for a new one?,cheers keith....

I've dealt with Newmans, had a Ford trial grind (side valve) put on my Standard 12 s/v cam. They were most helpful. I had the tappets re-surfaced by them as well. The work was all spot on.
Whether their V6 cam would be better or worse than Kents I have no idea.

Edit. 6000 is probably a bit optimistic for a near stock Essex.
