I put a points dizzy in a SOHC Fiat 1585cc engine that'd originally had electronic ignition. The SOHC block is basically the same as the twin cam one. The car was a 1984 Fiat Regata Super and the points distributor came out of mid-Seventies Fiat 124 Sport. The trick is getting a dizzy from the right Fiat/Lancia twin cam as some have the distributor coming off the camshaft. If you've one of those go for one from a 1608cc engine. If you've one in the block go for a mid/late Seventies one from a 1600/1792 engine.

Just an update - back up and running now - turned out to be two issues combined - 1st appears to have been distributor, had it rebuilt with new pick up coil - much better spark, redid the earthing straps in better grade copper which made a big improvement, but wasn't keen on running, although it was firing, then found a poor seal on carb number one, et voila she starts and runs pretty good now! So thanks again everyone for suggestions
