No the glass is full 50% water 50% air

So what your saying if you really dont like someone all you need to do is apply for a v5 with there chassis number and they will instantly call there vehicle in for inpsection and tear it to pieces if it is modfied ?

Never ever thought of that, you do have a sneaky mind ! .

The first move when someone applies for a logbook, if change not notified by last owner , is DVLA contacts the other registered keeper to advise them .If he insists he has the correct car to match , as does the other owner then there's only one next move

DVLA are the referees but both could lose.

Was just reading on another site that people (landrovers ) had had letters saying they where no longer the resgistered owner of there vehicles as someone else had tried to register there vehicle ? Seems that DVLA wont tell you if the chassis number / reg is allready linked to a reg number / V5 even though they could check , they just informt he current keeper and then they have to persue the DVLA , crazy !!!!!!!!

So winding back the clock if he applies for the V5 and it is allready registerd then He would be better sell the parts or go for a new build if he can be bothered .

As I said, seen it happen with rod registrations as well doesn't surprise me with LR lot as chassis and component swapping is rife , as is lack of understanding of the DVLA regs ( giving them the benefit of the doubt here ).

Back to the beginning ,yes , if already registered he could prevent the inspection of the other by backing down on his claim for reg document. The system still says that even with a logbook after modifying past the 8 points system he won't be eligible to retain reg or Historic status SHOULD the identity ever be challenged.

Personally if I wanted a Pop ( and I've had a couple ) I'd be buying a running vehicle with pre '98 modification provenance which , dependent on certain provisions, gives Grandfather rights without the need for a BIVA.

Just thinking , I know of one case ,Midlands area where a restorer had the chassis originally under a rod, complete with all running gear and the rodder had only the body. LO decided the rodder was the one entitled to the reg

Thanks Guys, to avoid pistols at Dawn, I will throw up my hands and surrender, the hell I will (best John Wayne accent).

I have never even seen the vehicle but from photos I have a complete chassis, Body, doors, bonnet, grill, boot lid, standard rear axle, standard front axle fitted with escort hubs, steering column, no interior or glass and no original engine or transmission, it came with a Rover V8 and tranny and 6 wheels. The previous owner did contact the FSVOC with a chassis number and got a year back and did some welding of chassis (all legal 8 point stuff as I understand the rules) and body before deciding too much, seems a nice enough guy on emails and did deliver it to a friends place for safekeeping until I can do something with it. ( and to be nasty if the chassis number is in use somewhere else I probably have an legal option of claiming that the vehicle was not fit for use as sold)

So I will be contacting DLVA with the chassis number and asking for a V5 ( original reg number) , they may request a letter from the FSVOC or similar to confirm age and the FSVOC may want a list of parts and even a look and that can lead me down the age related plate number route. That I will assume will confirm the identity of this vehicle. If that chassis number is in use else where one or both of these organisations I am sure will inform me and we'll take it from there.

I think it would be fair to assume that there are hundreds of non V5 restorable (or not) cars sitting in barns and scrap yards all over the UK, people sitting on old cars in their front yards etc etc most of which will never see a V5 again unless they are collectable or cult, morris marina club anyone, My Panther (pics) was UK built and sold direct to Jordan in 1978 so I doubt it has any history with DLVA , my Moggie sold back in 1978/9 and never seen again, the number plate no longer is listed at DLVC if I came across it as a restorable project I would buy tomorrow. So with my glass half full I'll go to bed. I suspect it will take a few weeks for all the paperwork pieces to fall so watch this space, I will post.......

Nothing done yet with Pop but I do also have 2 Harley Davidson 125's from 1975 and 1976 also with no V5's which I bought last year. I have contacted DVLA online about registrating one with no docs at all from only frame number and I am waiting their reply, The second has a old number plate and frame number but no V5 so have posted a V62 to Swansea, good learning curve for Pop
