    fitting pertronix kit 2.

RIGHT, follow up to fitting pertronix kit, I fitted it in situ,
a bit of a pain but sorted, left original delco coil on to see
if engine started ok, and yes it ran fine, but the car has a
ballast resistor on the firewall which would have been there
when it had a inline 6 originally from factory, It has had a
v8 in when it came here from the states years ago, I bought
a flamethrower coil to fit as well (1.5 ohm) and the paperwork
states don't use ballast resistor, the coil/ignition wire is coming
from the starter motor for what I can see, but my multi meter
is on the blink and can't check coil for voltage,(9 volt) am I
right in thinking that ballast resistor cuts coil down to 9 volts,
ballast resistor has wires on that go through firewall behind dash,
so could original coil have been running at 12 volts or would it
have burnt out if this was the case, Richard.

yes a ballasted coil is 9 volts, the idea is the coil is fed 12 volts when cranking to get a hotter spark on startup. you will need a full 12 volts for the pertronix coil.
    neil.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.
