Trying to help my mate sort out the ignition on his i6 motor. He don't do internet and is looking for a UK solution if poss rather than importing parts from the US.
I'm not 100% sure whether it's a 240 or 300 cubic inch but I don't think this affects the options (you'll correct me if I'm wrong hopefully).
He got the engine to swap into another vehicle - it came with the distributor but no ignition module. I understand it's a late '80s engine and from what I can find out, that would have had a Duraspark II module.
He's an old technology kind of person and would prefer a points type distributor.
So the questions:
1) Are there likely to be any compatibility problems fitting a points type distributor from an earlier engine? With my brief bit of research I think the blocks have stayed the same at least.
2) If keeping it electronic is a better option (better efficiency / retarded ignition on cranking etc?) - was the Duraspark II fitted to any UK cars that would work in this application or are they vehicle specific? I did come across someone using a module from a Granada on a SBF V8.
Oh, and if you have the parts to complete either of those 2 options, please let me know.
