    ford v6 essex or cologne

    Hi
    I have been offered a ford v6 engine it has only 2 exaust outlets on each side
    Is this the cologne and if so whats the best way to find out age and size

    On a cologne the dizzy is at the bulkhead end on an essex it's at the waterpump end i think

    It's the Cologne, Essex parts don't interchange.

    could be a 2.0, 2.3, 2.6 or 2.8, -2.9s had 3 port heads,

    And 2.9s are the only one worth having. Fitted one to my 2.8i Capri a few years back, and in a day turned it into the car it always promised to be. Gives the top end pull of a 2.8, the bottom end grunt of a 3.0l and over 30MPG on unleaded fuel. For a total cost of £230 installed(£100 of which was for the K&Ns!) Also does away with the ghastly 'elastic throttle cable effect' that the stock K-jet injection has.

    On the block where the engine number is there should be letters something like yy or py which will be able to tell you what size the engine is,if you post whats on it i can tell you what it means,the engine number is located at the water pump end just below the head on the passenger side of the engine,cheers Paul

    The code on the block is YY and the engine number is Either EA75857 or
    FA75857

    2 exhaust ports?... is it not a V4?
