    front end shimmy on T??

I have had the problem before but not as bad..and was advised to put a little more caster angle and a panhard rod which i did and it went away fopr the most part except sometimes happenned when braking on very bumpy roads.

sometimes my front end goes beserk....like really bad wheel wobble, they wheels start goiing leaft and right very quick and it shakes the whole car, it i dont fight with the wheel it usually stops but has gotten worse!
I have about 7 degrees of caster and toe in is 1/16th, transit steering box all adjusted correctly, everything else seems to be as tight as it should with virtually no wear.

    any suggestions......

The shimmy is caused by the wheel setting up a gyroscope effect on one wheel and then being transmitted through the beam to the other side. I've a 30s suspension book that mentions it being a problem !

Little bits of wear anywhere is the first thing to check , which you've already been through.

More toe in will help to keep the car pulling straight and stop the shimmying. Take it up in 1/16 increments to 3/16ths total

Too much caster can also cause shimmy as well as too little so worth a try knocking it back as well .

Too high a spring rate can also cause the tyre to launch from a lump and start gyrating

Too high tyre pressures ( especially coupled with too high spring rate ) will also start a wobble.

EDIT . As it was OK before what changes have you made recently ? Taller tyres, raised or lowered either end, more weight added ?

Maybe try fitting a steering damper to the steering cross tube,?
They usually calm it down a fair bit,
VW van ones are pretty cheap.

will check all above theorys this week, thinking about it one of the tyres looks a little down, will double check bearings and joints.... redo caster and toe in a little more.... hopefully cure it.

if none of that works will look at a damper.

    Thanks

Got the T-shirt on this one!

If you are happy that everything is as it should be with the front end then the damper should do the trick.

It is worth checking the tyres out, they might look ok but check the inside wall.Sometimes they ripple.

    update...
    checked wheel bearing..ok
regreased kingpins..till fresh grease came out.
checked tie rod sperical ends...found a little wear in both.. replaced with new.
    checked drag link...ok
kingpin angle is 6 degrees, will leave as is till rest done.
going to have front end tracked and tyres took off and rebalanced, and then tracking set.

hopefully will be sorted... and mot tommoro too!
