    gauges and thread info please

Hi guys, I am gradually getting to grips with my engine conversion but I need some advice before I buy some gauges. I have a GM Dual Plane Intake on my Chevy engine and I think I am right in saying that American thread is different to our British thread (please correct me if I am wrong) I want to get a oil pressure gauge as well as a water temperature gauge but whats holding me back is the senders/threads, do I need to buy the gauges from the US or is there somewhere in the UK where I can buy them with the correct thread size that will screw straight in to my manifold.

I apologise if people think this is a daft question but we all have to start somewhere

    regards Simon

real steel sell gauges etc,, i have found that the oil pressure sender thread seems to be standard 1/8th npt i think,, this is the thread in the rear of the block behind intake manifold.. i buy from jegs in the usa, better selection of parts is the reason.. dont forget to fit an oil pressure warning light as well as the gauge

yank stuff is NPT european is BSP and some modern stuff is metric
you can usualy get away with npt / bsp mix as long as you use a thread sealer.

Speedograph Richfield and Goodridge sell a bunch of adaptors so pick the guages you want and then get the adaptors for them. If you use adaptors that are male/male with one end being JIC you can get Goodridge hose with fittings to connect the gauge to the engine/manifold/etc.

One to watch on oil and fuel pressure gauge fittings is that 1/8"NPT has 27 tpi and 1/8"BSP has 28 tpi. I know many people lash them up tight with some PTFE tape, but your engine, car or even life might depend on it not leaking fuel...
