    help needed

    i have a Winnie bago elandan chevy big block v8 engine and am currently trying to over haul the power steering pump ive got the seals kit and need to know how to split the unit apart i belive that you need to rest the rim on a edge and tap via the stud holes on the back of the unit to pop it apart and ive also read that using dextros 2 /3 atf fluid actually rots the the seals is there any truth in this if so any pointers in the correct fluid to use cheers ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------just looking see ive had a load of views but no feed back any one took one of these apart i do know that putting the year of make comes up with a can o ham style and the one ive got is more like 77-79 round cylinder shaped hydroboost which ive managed to renew the seals on that anyone any advice??????????

    Sounds like you are going about it correctly. Undo the nuts from the back and the can comes off the solid metal front part. Might be a bitch but I had no issues I remember from doing mine. Only slag I had was the press on pully bends completely before it comes off and needs to be renewed if you need to change the shaft seal. Early pumps had a key way style and come off easier.
    The dextron thing is bull. I rebuild gearboxes with all kinds of oil in them and the only thing that kills the seals is old age and heat. After 30 + years of operation expect any seal to quit.
