HELP...No horn

hi everyone...trying to locate the horn on my car,,yes beep beep..lol..
it has a chrome chain link steering wheel..no centre push button...
asked the guy when buying the car, whers the horn...he pointed to a black wire
next to the steering column..attatch a switch ti that wire, run an earth away from it...bingo , your horn...tried that ..nowt...should that wire not been red?
Any ideas....jim:(

thanks...tried to trace the wires back to the dash...it joins a series of wires which are taped and runs for about 4 feet...with lots of red n black wires....found two spare wires under steering/dash..one was white...tried tthat...nowt, then there was a double sort of twin black one side red next to it, tried that ..nothing...gulp...

hello that black red wire sounds like speaker wire to me so be carefull you dont end up blowing somthing else as already said trace from horn back , if no joy then if its for mot run new seprate wires from horn to switch remember to tape off original wires you can find .do a tidy job . get the mot and this will give you 12 months to find the real fault , if all else fails try viagra thats said to make the horn work .lol ( sorry i couldnt resist that ) good luck bud

Do you have TPFT insurance, with emphasis on the F?

Snip the wire off under the dash, or at least insulate it. Start at the horn, work backwards with new wire, fit a relay, and fit a switch. Add a liberal dose of fuses for good measure, and you should have a good horn.
If in doubt, seek the help of a professional auto electrician, if none available, a competant person on here.
Remamber, mains voltage got wrong can kill, 12 volts just sends cars to early cremation.
