    Holley guru needed... near Gloucester

My AMC has its factory 2bbl Holley.

    Pig to start from cold.
And when it's hot and you try to accelerate, it goes chuff! and stalls.

I could mess around with it, but I think it needs looking at by someone who knows what they're doing.

Any recommendations on who might have the expertise?

    I'm near Gloucester/Stroud.

You're looking at something fairly critical for this. So it would need to be something like a very low float level, crap fuel pressure, complete cockup on the acceletor pump setup, completely incorrect jets (too small) or its got diabetes and needs a rebuild.

Not near Gloucester I'm afraid, but anyone with a bit of typical Holley 4 barrel knowledge should be able to help.

    Lightbulb

Looking at this and your other thread sounds like it's been running, just good enough new carb etc, but now effectively gutless under load.

Maybe needs an old school service, fuel delivery pressure, fuel filter, carb clean adjust, hose vacuum, tune up, then timing.

You may end up doing most of the above with a new fanimold anyhoo

    Well, that was, ahh, interesting.
I've been reading the AMC shop manual which is pretty detailed, but has probably left me little wiser.

The accelerator pump jets are OK and both look the same. There seemed to be a lacuna between opening the throttle a little and the pump operating, so I closed up the throttle lever clearance a bit. As far as I know, everything in the carb is per factory.

So I started the engine. Air cleaner off.

OK from cold, two pumps, full choke, second attempt and it caught and gradually ran faster and faster, and pushing in the choke had no effect on engine speed.
This is not what I'm used to - usually pulling/pushing the choke controls the fast idle, perhaps it's like this because it’s had a backyard conversion to manual choke.
I see one can buy manual choke versions now.

So then I kicked the throttle and it came off the fast idle cam and pretty soon decided it didn't want to idle. Pulling the choke in varying degrees did nothing to encourage it and after a bit it went Chuff!! through the carb and stopped.

Getting it restarted involved fiddling with the choke and some encouragement with the throttle, and in the process there was a good deal of spitting and Chuffing!! and then I noticed that the carb was on fire.
That seemed a good time to stop.

    Hmm.
