How to determine plug temp range

I know that my pontiac runs fairly well doing the 1/4 mile in 13.2 secs at 102 mph. Not too shabby for a full weight street car but I'm trying to break into the 12s Ive jetted and rejected the carb and now think Im about at it's optimum. How do I know if the plugs are of the correct heat range? What does a different heat range plug actually mean and do to the combustion?
If it's got tits or tyres, its gonna be trouble

I've seen tech photos on the web on how to analyse the colour all the way down inside a plug and it's fascinating but too much for my colour vision lol

Can't wait to hear when you have a 12 second car

As an aside never presum ethe plugs supplied are equivalent to oEM spec. By that I mean spark plugs tend to be rated to have with manufacturing and factors stocks in mind. On my Fury I fitted what was suggested as the correct alternative ... it wasn't . It was too far to one side of the range and by swapping to next in listing everything was fine.

The problem is that sometimes the actual rating required is to one side of the plugs best operation.

Also note that some makes hot is numbered in a different direction to other manufacturers.
