Yes mate. I undid the rockers and put the DTI on top of, and in line with, the pushrods to get accurate lift figures.

Thanks Mark, that's my next quest!

    Tom, I'll have a read...........

Right! I now understand Tom!! Could it be that the Pertronix unit is not correctly phased with the dizzzy? Having said this it did run fine in the 350, so I would have thought it should be correct in this engine though.

If I wasn't meant to go that fast, the pedal would only go half way!

    But the engine runs.

My first job would be to check the pickup in the dissy.
You can have a gap of 40 thou and engine will not run at low revs.
You can hane a gap of 15 thou and the motor will run fine at low revs.

This would be my 1st check.

Mark, I have had bad experiences over the years with timing , both camshaft and ignition,+ various distributor odd problems that had me" chasing my tail " , nowadays I like to apply that knowledge and leave absolutely nothing to chance , where you are at right now leaves very few options , one is to get another Chevy man to your garage, secondly try each of your items IE carb +dist on a known good other car . You now need some good luck

Hi Newbold, I wasn't ignoring your post but having the pertronix unit in there I have no gap to adjust. (and it's not really possible to put it back to standard to check old fashioned timing). If I had another dizzy at least I could rule that out. Thank you for your thoughts and input though!!

Tom, as I said, the dizzy worked on the other engine, so I need to somehow get it running to check the timing and Capt Pugwash has offered another carb to check that, so I'll be contacting him to see if I can borrow it. Just a question of getting it to my place........

I did ask Simon, but 1/ it's a bit of a cheek, again! 2/ He's working away from home so has little time.

Anyone local to me who is a Chevy Guru willing to offer me some garage time in exchange for beer/coffee?

Can't you just borrow a HEI dizzy and check it with that although it still sounds to me like an intake leak

Because the 327 is meant to be a Corvette unit giving 380bhp, according to the readout supplied with thecar, and it came with this engine fitted. Give me a bell and I'll explain....

Can I borrow the carb, mate? Pretty please??

    Best
