    Hydraulic or mechanical cam?

    I took a rocker cover off today to look at my rockers.

    The heads are World Products with roller rockers.

    The valves that are closed have a little bit of play (lash?).

    I pushed down on the pushrod end of the rocker with an open valve...it seemed solid. If this was hydraulic, I'm told that I would have been able to push down on the rocker.

    I'm guessing that this is a mechanical cam so I need to adjust the lash. Am I right?

    possibly,tho i doubt it as think of the pressures on the pushrod when running..also if you can push them down then my massivly uneducated guess would be theres something wrong...and your a strong bugger..

    Hydraulic are pretty solid Dusty, even when not running. I had to squeeze mine down in a vice to eject the oil many years ago when I did some.

    with respect, how come you dont know whats inside this engine

    mmm, 16mm drill held over one of the knees does it for me[in the very rare instance of having to actually go furtherdont forget the pilot hole first]

    Dusty you can't press the hydraulics down. If you run through a valve adjusting sequence, ie each lobe on base circle of cam, do you have lash at all of them? By lash I mean an actual clearance measureable with a feeler strip? If so it will run with a nice mechanical click whilst running, something like a sowing machine if it is solid. If it is hydraulic it will sound like a bag of old nails! If there is no measurable clearance then a solid cam would probably not run or certainly extremely roughly if it did so.
    You really need to push him for a cam number to get the clearances etc.

    I've e mailed him and left phone messages (as has Deb) since we bought the Camaro last June and realised that some of the paper work he showed us was missing.

    TBH it didn't seem that important as the car was doing exactly what we'd been told.

    Now that the motor is in a street car (my coupe) it seemed more important.

    I guess I could pull the timing cover and see if there's any marking on the end of the cam but the motor doesn't leak...and probably would after I messed with it.

    I think if Mark was going to pass the stuff on, he would have done it by now....I can't be bothered to go into the depths of High Wycombe to find out why he's being a pratt.

    Otherwise all the performance cams I've used have had makers part number stamped on the end, depends if dropping the timing cover shows them up or they are on the back end meaning it needs pulling .

    the markings on my roller cam in the spare 302 chevy are on the rear end of the cam so it will probably need pulling...be careful of the bearings tho,they damage easy...
