    Identifying Rover V8

I got this Rover V8, it was out of a Police type Sherpa apparently.

But I dont know even whether its a 3.5, 3.9 or the year.

    Engine number is 28000179A

    (although the 2nd digit could be a 6? and the 3rd digit a G?)

Its 8.13 CR and has twin Strombergs i think.
It came with a ZF HP22 auto which Ive sold on.

I looked at the Rimmer Bros website which list Rover V8 engine numbers, but this wasn't there.

Any ideas as to how I could correctly identify it please?

    here's a start ?

Sherpa V8 races to market 23rd November 1985

THREE months after its sneak preview at the Blackpool ambulance show (C.V. August 24), Freight Rover's 98kW(1321ip) V8 Sherpa van is launched at the Scottish Show.

The V8 option will only be available on certain -300-Series (wide-bodied) Sherpa models, primarily for police and ambulance work, although Freight Rover expects the V8's rapid acceleration and top speed of close to 100 mph to win sales from express delivery operators.

The 3.5-litre engine built at Land Rover's Alcocks Green engine plant is basically the low-compression (Saudi-tune) version of the Range Rover V8, which is rated at 98kW(132hp) at 4,900 rpm and has a maximum torque of 251Nrn(185 1140 at 2,600 rpm.

The standard 77min Land Rover five-speed gearbox (used on all Sherpa models) is fitted with stronger gears with the same ratios as the Rover Vitesse and Range Rover.

Running over a typical urban operation Freight Rover claims fuel consumption of 14.1 mpg for the V8 Sherpa, while the two litre van can return 16.8mpg.

    regards Paul

Thanks Magman, unfortunately my one is not listed here either. I reckon its a 1980's 3.5.

    No, still haven't found it.
The numbers for the Sherpa at the end of Rimmer bros list begin with 47G, mine is 28G.
