    Jag' hub felt bushing replacement?

A few years ago I bought a set of rubber seals from Ward Engineering to replace the worn out felt seals on the lower, outher traling arm fastening point on the Jaguar hubs.
I did a fast trial fit and thought they looked a little too large. But when I contacted Ward about this he insisted that they would fit.

I had lots of other stuff going on then so I just put the rubber seals on the shelf for a while.

Tonight I decided to put them on, but there is no way they can slide in there. They are simply too big. The seals outer diameter is 1 5/8" (or app 41,5 mm) and the seal seat in the hub is only 1 9/16" (or app 39,5 mm)

Are there several different hub types? Older ones with smaller seals or something? My hubs are from the late 60 I think.

Are others familiar with this problem?

    Staleg,

All hubs are the same I have early ones and late ones no difference.

Haven't had rubber seals ??? I used new felt seals no worries at all. Can't you re-use the felt ones ?? they only hold grease anyway, no big deal. New felt ones should be easy to get hold of though.

I use Ward all the time for my parts.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers,
    Mike C.

    Staleg,
Just thought the felt seals should sit in the metal cup and the thick washer goes in the centre, then the shaft in the centre of this.
    Hope that makes sense,

    Cheers,
    Mike C.

The felt seals were way beyond saving, so I must have something new to put in there. I ordered these on recommendation from Ward, but maybe we have spoen by each other (different languages etc...) and he have sent rubber bushings for the inner trailing arm pivot point. I will check that tonight.

The problem is solved, and (as usual) is was my fault.
I hadn't removed the thin metal ring surrounding the felt seal. I thought the felt seal was placed directly on the aluminium.

So now everything is ok (except that the bearings were all shot, but that's another story...)
