The spacer is for the endfloat on the halfshafts . On the Scimitar axle the endfloat on the halfshafts is adjusted with shims with a spacer that goes through the diff to but up against the opposite halfshaft. So removing or adding shims on one side actually adjusts the endfloat on both sides of the car. Fitting a LSD there is no way a spacer can fit in the LSD for the halfshafts so you need a 2 little slugs machined up to fit in the diff and each halfshaft buts up against this so endfloat on either side has to be adjusted with shims separately.
