    jag rear calipers

    does anybody know of a reasonably staight forward caliper replacement for the jag independent rear with inboard discs? my dunlop units are way knackered and i would prefer to replace them with something 'Future Proof'. don't really need handbrake facility as I have a prop disc.

    You need to use something of the rear of another car as well as rear discs are much smaller bore than fronts . Personally I'd have thought the Jag would be catered for well into the future, huge amount of spares back up for them and a very active owners club.

    Thank you for that Kev, I appreciate what you are saying. Even the Jag units would be a bit hefty for my requirements so I have a balance valve fitted to offset this. Although the Jag parts are available, the costs are quite prohibitive. I may go back to Hi Spec brakes who supplied my front calipers. but I just wondered if anybody else had done a conversion using reasonably stock stuff?

    Yes, I bought a set at Harris's a while back but it's a space thing. the lump stuck out the side accommdating the handbrake mechanism fouls the axle housing. I even looked at re-locating, but could find nowhere that i could sneak them in! See you soon mate.

    They are about Jim but getting thin on the ground in breakers . They have a strange set up with the handbrake requiring pistons winding ( not pushing ) back in . Think they are about £35 +vat exchange from our local factors. Then you need to make new brackets to align them with the discs of course.

    When I got them off, the calipers were well mullered. lumps of lip broken off around the dust boot and looks like stillsons have been used on the pistons!!! Also just my luck to have some 'rare' ones with only one removable piston housing. I have contacted Hi Spec brakes to see what they have. If I am going to spend, I may as well shed some weight too (No comments please!!!!)

    Hi try the following jag specialists;

    David manners - http://www.jagspares.co.uk/Manners/company.asp

    SNG - https://www.sngbarratt.com/index.asp

    Martin Robey - http://www.martinrobey.com/home.cfm

    Uprated ones here - http://www.zeus.uk.com/calipers.php

    The pistons you are talking about are pre XJ6, either s type, e type and the parts are widely available. Prices shouldn't be that bad.
