Kin brakes are still giving me a head ache.

OK...... I have drilled the pedal to align the brake rod.
I have replaced a broken pedal return spring.
I have the Wilwood bias valve almost completely open.
The brakes arent binding or sticking on anymore.

The problem Im having now, is that the brakes have no feel to them.
By this I mean the pedal feels solid. Sort of on / off as opposed to progressive.
I have to anticipate braking because if I just dab my foot on the brake, Everything locks up.
There is no... The harder I push, the more braking there is. Its just on or off brakes.

I have a one way valve in the vaccum pipe from the carb to the servo. It didnt come with the kit. Iv used them before without any problem. Could this be my problem? Unlikely in my mind.

Life was so much easier when it had drums all round. If I hadnt sold all my drum bits I would have changed back by now. Its driving me mad.
    Its just horrible to drive.
I just leave it in the garage now. Only drive it when I really have to. Thats no fun.

Any help is good help. Thanx.
If its low n black n shiny n sparkley n loud n spitting fire....... It's probably mine.

How much actual pedal travel to lock out and how much is that at the master cylinder pushrod. ?

What bore m/c now and before on the drums?

Have you been through the CPP trouble shoot guide? pretty much the bible on brakes.
Did you put in a proportioning valve?
Given you're having so much bother might be good to detail the spec on all your components and pics etc.

One of the main problems is that I have no spec. How do i measure all these things? Pull it all apart and measure them all?

    Try Welcome to TriFive.com, 1955 1956 1957 Chevy Forum

Some very clever folks over there and they may have used the same set-up that you have!

    Worth a try.........
If I wasn't meant to go that fast, the pedal would only go half way!

My bits are easy to do .

Steel rule from the floor to centre of pedal pad, depress brake pedal fully and remeasure.
Crawk up under dash until you see back of servo and pushrod.

Measure from the outer edge of the servo to where the pushrod is attached to the pedal, push pedal fully down and remeasure same distance.

While you are under there also measure from centre of pedal swivel /pivot to centre of where pushrod attaches, then measure from pedal pivot again to centre of pedal pad ( in a straightline ,ignore any pedal shape ).

Don't get your mohican trapped in any springs etc

This is a kit system for a 57 I'm assuming? As others said I would be checking the pushrod freeplay but I think I mentioned before that many in the States had not got these systems to work very well using a Wilwood type proportioning valve. It seems that a factory combination valve works much better and although non adjustable it gives a well balanced system.

I was told by someone to leave the proportioning valve out.
Someone else on my last brake problem thread mentioned they had a factory valve They didnt need. I could make use of it.
Cant remember who it was. I'll go check the other thread.

Im off into the garage shortly. I'll take measurements.

    I could be some time!
