QuestionLT1 Gearbox choices... talk to me! :)

I'm building a car and looking to fit an LT1 into it. I have the engine but it comes minus gearbox so I need a bit of help with what I should be looking for...

Do all SBC gearboxes fit? Which should I be looking for in a daily driver / reliable situation. Not racing but would be nice to get off the line in an emergency

I see a lot of codes flying around, T350 TH400 etc but I don;t know anything about these boxes. Any help appreciated!!

    Thanks
    Rob

I'm not sure of the exact age - it's fuel injected 350 from a 'vette. C4 I think? I should find out what year really...

Don't worry what year, I think Paul was checking you weren't referring to an oooooooooold LT1. Which was a muscle car era small block.

Anyway, TH350s will bolt right up, using the stock LT1 flexplate, which is an external balance 153 tooth piece. If you don't have one, this
TCI 399173 TCI Heavy Duty Flexplates
    will do the job.

From there on it should bolt right up to normal th350 converters with the same bolt pattern.

Or ya could hunt down the 4l60e it came with, then you have an extra gear for cruising. It is computer-controlled though. I imagine the th700r4 and th200 4r (both 4-speed) would have a similar fitment procedure to the th350, start with the lt1 flexplate and use the converter they came with from the factory (lock-up style in this case).

Thanks Jamie - So, I need a flex plate (as posted above), a convertor AND a gearbox... ia that right?
I've never had anything to do with Autos.

The engine is still in the car and runs great. I get everything engine side (injection, ecu, most ancillaries) but the guy is keeping the fly wheel / clutch, bell and box.

If the donor has a chipped key you will need to modify the ECU to overcome the immobiliser. I got mine from Street & Performance and it fired up first time
Money talks; unfortunately mine just says "goodbye"

Thanks MikeS but don't worry , it's a good friend who's selling it so we'll iron any of these things out as we go along. It's not still in a standard 'Vette - already had the wiring etc minimised. I think it's on a button at the moment? Anyhoo - not concerned as he is changing for a completely different engine so any bits for the vette motor will come with it where needed.

What are the manual options for this engine?
