Angrymk2 escort front end in a ford 100e

Can somebody explain to me how you fit mk2 escort struts into a ford 100e.

I have asked so many people and i am getting so many different answers.

I was told i could retain the original 100e top mounts which i have now managed to do by getting a steel shalf machined. But i was originally told that they would be a straight forward swop that never happened.
Then i was told that if i fitted adjustable tcas from a mk1/mk2 escort again they would fit straight in. wrong again they do fit but the camber angle is way off the wheels may aswell be laying flat. Thats at full extention on the tcas.

Looks like the car off back to the future.

Has anybody got any solutions as to how i can sort this out. Do i need to fit a mk1/mk2 crossmember. Do i need a escort mk2 antiroll bar.

I do not want to cut any of my body work even in the engine bay as shes a pearler

    cheers

Try logging on to ford100e.com if you have no joy on here.

Very helpful crowd, and all 100e are welcome, standard to full race cars

When I did my mates years ago, I put a complete mk1/2 front clip in, crossmember, rack, struts etc...

I used some escort strut top repair panels, bolted the to the struts, and poked it all in place, pie cut the turrets and welded the tops in where they fitted, then filled in the gaps.

Also welded the x member in, but it could have been bolted in for ease of removal.

There was some camber there, but not overly, seemed to work fine when it was up and running.

    HTH???

*edit* the classic capri (??) ones are 'supposed' to be a 'direct' fit, but we went that route first, as you say the TCA's don't work...

Gimme a nod if you want a 'proper' chat, as I ain't that far away...!!!

When i did this some years back i made my own xmember but i see no reason why you shouldnt use the whole escort set up, from what i remember going by the escort rack it pulled the track in a bit (which the 100e needs) this ment the top mounts needed sorting to keep the camber, set your caster angle & all geometry with the car at its rake & ride hight you want when finished, by using the escort xmember you wont have bump steer problems & you should be able to use the escort roll bar or as i did fit compression struts if you want use the escort column & any joint you need for that you can get from rally design & anybody that tells you anything like this is simple is either a pro or they aint got a clue you will need to weld & understand how to set up the suspension
oh & if you convert to the smaller 2.25 dia springs it will give you more room in the towers

    Wise words !

I've seen loads bolted into position where the caster and camber is dreadfully out . If you are moving suspension from one car to another you may need to alter the top turrets to get the matched widths as on the donor or adjustable TCAs if if needs to come in top and bottom to match.

Same applies to swapping racks around there is far more to it than most realise if you do not want to end up with bumpsteer and /or strange handling.

I did this conversion years ago on my own Pinto powered 100E. Its not too difficult but definately not a bolt in. I made my own cross member and TCA's. I wanted the car to sit low and the escort items wouldn't allow this, the ball joint on the end of TCA would be at its limit of movement. Also making my own crossmember allowed me to set the engine a bit lower in the car aswell. As youve already gathered the top mounts need relocating also.
All in all tho its a conversion well worth doing.
