    Model A window mechanism

I'm making window mechism on my unchopped A pick up. What mechanisms have others used as the elctric ones already in there don't go all the way down and the Nissan Vannette ones I got hold of are also too thick to get the glass to the bottom of the door.

On my last (chopped) A pick up I used some chain mechanisms that were already fitted but I've no idea if they were repro stock ones or not.

I can't seem to find any diagrams via Google at the mo either?

I seem to remember a similar question a while ago, maybe on the NSRA. Wasn't the answer a cable- or chain-driven one - VW maybe?

i used mk 2 golf ones on my zephyr kev, cheap, readily available and quite compact, cable operated with a window lifter that is central.

I may have asked awhile back Andy ,I've been taking far too long doing this

I bought Nissan Vannette mechanisms, single central mounted slide with cable drive ( not serrated wire) as it was the only one I could find that had enough lift for the size of the glass .However the narrowness of the door means the whole mechanism can't get to the bottom .This leaves the glass still projecting which is why I was changing them in the first place in the first place

Kev, it's amount of lift that is the problem as the pick up windows are tall , can they be straightened to give more travel?

I was hoping that someoen who has actually fitted some in an unchopped truck may be able to say what they used.

EDIT : ..and before anyone says ..NO..I'm not chopping it !!

I recently bought a pair of Model A 3 bolt front regulators to fit the rear of my 32 sedan. They cost me $30.00 on Fordbarn plus a sensible bit of postage. I then managed to get the glass channel I needed on Ebay.

what steve said sounds like the best idea, i did take the bend out of mine, over the knee job, but if you go too mad the cables slip...

I managed to find repro original mechanisms at Sneiders at $36 each ,plus runners at about $26 each . Only real problem ( other than price ) is time to get them here with them sitting in UK customs for too long. I'm on a roll ( been a long time coming) so want to get them sorted asap.

Hence first option would be something cheap and here already.

I can't comment from experience, but when I asked about repro original style Model A window winders, the consensus was that they weren't up to much. Have you tried asking PDQPOP what is in his one (currently for sale)? Or Russ who had it before him?
