fantastic info everyone has helped no end been inspired to learn more and just bought haynes guide to engine management which i shall work my way through till it sticks in my head think i'll try a zetec in the moggy next year!! or maybe the v6 duratec? if it'll fit thanks again for all your time and effort everyone much appreciated. respect due to mr 30psi cheers mate

Kapri, I do use a reasonable set of ratchiting crimps for non insulated terminals rather than the horrible sheet metal ones that infest everbodys toolbox
The fella that taught me a lot about the electrical side of car did his apprenticeship at the prodrive rally team, mostly making WRC looms, and now works for a leading F1 team, he NEVER solders wires always crimps, and aslo uses the best we he can get, for least resistance, thats why my injection is wired using supersoft ultra fine strand wire
Sorry, I meant terminals rather than crimps Is it just 'standard Ripaults type terminals though ( I've a set of pukka crimps )
assuming your idea of ripaults is the same as mine, the standard open non insulated crimp terminal, with the crimp and the integeral insulation support, YES, not the pre insulated things that fall off.
I can't add to the thread but great info and thanks for posting it. Having just bought my first modern car - ever - with all this electrickery, really good way of getting up to (half) speed on it.
