    most durable coating/plating?

Soon I will be needing to coat paint or plate jag axle and wheels and a bunch of other under body stuff.

As the rear axle will be visible from behind I want it to look good and stay half decent without too much detailing maintenance.

As the car will be used frequently, if not daily I need it to last and withstand the attacks of road crap and salt. And heat from the hotter bits. Same goes for the wheels, which are currently bare alluminum.

Kind of rude not to have fogs on the jag end too..

So whats best? Happy to sacrifce some of the chrome type shine for longer life, not hundrd percent sure what colours or finishes I want yet either. Not going to want loads of chrome underneath anyway but theres a lot of metal to cover. And the wheels, kindof depends what process is used first.

Under a car I would most certainly think about using chrome powder coat , a fraction of the cost of chrome and low maintenance.

Chrome powder coat sounds cool, I have two initial concerns though. I have read that powder coating on stressed components or near edges such as welds, say in a lower control arm, the stresses and tiny flexes cause the coating to crack and subsequently flake off.. and when aluminum is powder coated, like my wheels even, the heat can create issues. I forget what I read about the issues though! Maybe that the material becomes brittle?

But paint wouldn't last long on an axle, chrome doesnt like salt, I do like the idea of powder coating.

My possibly crazy plan is to get all the metal bits finished in the same way, wheels, suspension/drivetrain bits, body trim etc.. maybe it'll look **** though.

If its mostly ally take a look at getting it anodised, I can imagine it wouldnt be ridiculous money if you did a lot of the prep work yourself.
