    Mot

    Trying to get my project Mot'd, my local friendly mot man is normally helpful, but is now so worried about the new regs that he keeps coming up with all sorts of stuff!! I comply with it and than theres something else!

    Anyone suggest a rodfriendly MOT garage within striking distance from the East end of London?
    Im just off the A13.

    Theres no such thing as a rod freindly garage, an MOT is an MOT, i guess your tester is not up too speed or your ride is not going to pass as it is, what things is he saying you need to do?

    An MOT is a MOT? I beg to difer. Some places get the ****s when you turn up with any thing unusual. And will fail stuff thats noncense. I think this is because there scared that it might come back and bite them on the bum. I know that an MOT should be the same where ever its done, but that sadly is not true. I'm not saying for one minute that a Rod freindly place is more leeniunt(sp) its that I have found a rod frienldy place knows the MOT and conducts its properly, and aint scared to MOT somthing different. In my time I have seen the craziest fails from the non freindly places. I'm only using the turm "rod freindly" cus thats what it was originaly called.

    I agree, last year I got 17 advisories, this year none (different garage) the first guy was just covering his arse by putting anything he thought might be a bit iffy down as an advisory.

    My recent daily mot was an experience and came away with an 'advisory'
    on a rear passenger window having a tint, rear discs worn and should have
    been changed when THEY changed the pads. If they were a liability they
    would have jumped at the chance of replacing them I'm sure.
    Either the discs are worn out or they aint - in mot failure terms that is.
    There's no grooves in them so wasn't a pad bedding in thing.
    When is a rubber bush a fail or not a fail, anyone can make it look weak
    if you swing on the bloody thing or should it actually knock etc.
    They changed some bushes and recommended an upgrade to poly as
    rubber is ****e and intimated the factory stuff was no longer good
    enough for the 21st century.

    Seems like more items outside the specific remit of an mot are being
    brought up at some centres too, although they obviously can't be a fail.

    Next time I'm going to the local council depot way in advance. I really feel
    like I'm being set up when mot centres have busy workshops next door and
    they have a price all worked out when they tell you its failed and that if you
    ok it the parts will be there in an hour and the car done by tea time.
