Below are the new MOT failable items. They can fail on any oil leak if its bad enough - have been able to for a while.
The main ****er on this list is the airbag light!! thats gonna cost people some money to fix!

    For Class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles:

Headlamp levelling and cleaning devices when fitted for HID or LED headlamps

    Main beam ‘tell-tale’ warning

Battery (including batteries for electric or hybrid vehicles)

    Electrical wiring and connectors

Trailer electrical socket security and damage

Operation of 13-pin trailer electrical sockets using an approved trailer socket tester

Operation of the steering lock (where fitted) including a malfunction warning in respect of an electronic steering lock

Electronic power steering malfunction indicator lamp

Electronic parking brake control and malfunction indicator lamp

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) components, including the switch (if fitted) and malfunction warning

Brake fluid warning lamp illuminated or inoperative

    Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)

SRS components including airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, seat belt load limiters and SRS malfunction warning lamp

    Engine mountings

    Speedometer

Indirect vision devices (where they replace obligatory mirrors)
Additional new items for Class 5 vehicles only:

    Electronic braking system warning device

    Entrance/Exit Steps and doors

    Door remote and emergency controls

    Door open warning devices

    Stairs

Emergency exit signs, windows and ‘break glass’ hammers
    NEVER GO FULL RETARD

Yes they are pulling a fast one
    It's still advise
But they can only put a red advise if they think it is really bad

    Ok
if they do test the car and do a gas test they are saying the car is fit for test so oil leak is not that bad ??? Bec they have the right to refuse to test if a danger to vts bay or vehicle
Only oil leak that is a fail is p.a.s leak

The new rules came in on wed 20th so thats wrong for a start, engine oil leaks are not a fail unless it is deemed unsafe to carry out the mot or carry out an emissions test, find another test station it sounds like they are short of work.

More often than not the airbag light is often a simple fix, under the seats, you find a wire going up to the seat belt clip, modern cars have that tensioner activator doo-da thats fired off when an air bag goes off ,to tension the seatbelt, moving seats forward and back or something catching the wire sometimes unplugs or breaks that cable.Always worth a check before you go for diagnostics

If your lights on then it has to be reset with a tool (well on a BMW is does). Cleaning up the contacts etc may remove the fault but the light stays on. BMW charge £50 a pop to reset the light. The tool is $70 from Peake in the USA direct to your door.....
