Try the body swop and oil first as that costs nothing

Could you getting to far into the electrical side and forgetting the mechanical side of things ?
You say you fitted a new manifold ?
You don't have dropped valve or bent push rod even may be a knackerd exhaust lifter ?
If you run the motor can you check if the exhaust is heating up to much or not enough ( being very carful not to burn yourself lol)
Maybe a lobe has gone on the cam ?
Just trying to think what it would be if it was on carbs
race it cruise it just use it and abuse it
    nscc 8
    having fun is usual

I've seen two Chevy engines in recent weeks set up with totally incorrect valve lash. Not saying it is but are you sure it's not too tight on that cylinder?

    hi o.p.y
we have checked & rseated the valves adjusted the lash done a compression test
& a leak down test all with no problems lift on the cam was check at the valves with a dial gauge all ok
the exhaust has 2 lamda sensors 1 on the left connected to a innovate meter & right is connected to my wide band gauge left allways sez between 12 & 13, right always sez 13 to 15 giving a lean reading due to only working on 3 plugs have even changed them over in case the innovate was'nt working properly still the same pull all 8 plugs & 7 are blackish & 1 spotlessly clean.

    but thanks for surrgestions

I take it you've tried moving that plug to another cylinder to see if the fault stays at umber 4 or follows the plug ?

Sorry if it sounded like a 'sucking eggs' question but I was caught out for several days by a set of plugs that all fired outside the motor but simply not when inside. Yup, ALL 4 were faulty.
