    Oil all gone after 2wks

My daughter has just bought an 8yr old car with average mileage from a dealer that sells that brand, upon checking the dipstick after 2 weeks of ownership it was empty, no oil showing. Garage says it's the strainer, a common problem we'll fix it & modify it. They say there's enough oil in the engine that it wouldn't of caused any problems. They won't do any stripping down of the engine to check. There is a 12month warrenty with it & now it's "fixed" they want a 600 mile test to see if any oil disappears. If it has done any other damage how long will it be before it shows?

Imagine your heart running out of blood.thats what you do when oil runs out..
where is it going..if its being burned its not good.
Change the oil filter.split the old one and look for bits of copper and ****e.any metal take it straight back to the dealer.

garage dont know what its on about concerning oil...they dont want to fix it if its ****ed?

If there a trader you are well in you're rights to take the car back and demand you're money back. A friend of mine will no longer sell cars as the law has changed for example he sold a Corsa to a young lad that bragged how quick he'd gone on his journey which averaged out at 90 mph for two hours constant i n a 1 ltr. He had to fit a new engine under the new trading laws

The trouble is they'd be without a car, they wouldn't get another at the price they got this. I said do the 600 miles if all's ok keep it, if it breaks down due to the oil starvation then they'll have to cross that bridge when & if it happens

Did you get this 600 mile thing on paper...?

Depending on how much it gets used 600 miles could take a while...garage sounds to be dodgy.

VW? You can always have an oil analysis done privately for a small fee to give an indication if anything is starting to fail?

Drain oil, let it nip up and demand money back.

Did the oil light come on ? if not it will most likely be ok , if the light came on whilst she was driving causing you to check the level then you may have issues later on .
