The most common is the red top,
Theres also blue and a yellow that i run,
The yellow are apparently a deep cycle? than can drain further and still crank the engine over a bit similar to a leisure battery,
Check the spec on what type you need.

i use red tops on my two cars.get them from tayna as above.

find over winter they do like to be charged a bit,if you only use youre car every other week, for short jouneys

on most customer cars i generally use halfords ones.half the price of an optimawith a trade card

I've not looked but the optima must be bloody dear then wayne, as halfrauds are about the most expensive for batteries I've seen. My local factors are 2/3 the price or less in general.

Optima, not cheap but good with no chance of acid spillage.
Red top is a starter battery,
Yellow top if you are running compressors or big sound system
Blue top is for marine use, (but I did find one fitted on the works floor cleaner???)

Red tops are used as part of the back up emergency electrical system in hospitals etc,
Friend of a friend replaces about 10 or so batteries at each site every 2 years,

Tests the ones he removes and sells the good ones on for about £20 each,
Not come across any for a while....

Fitted loads of red tops over the years but the last one in my daily use S2 Landrover died on me the other day without warning and just out of the 2 year warranty. Not even enough juice to make the starter click..

Put it on a battery conditioner for two days but not holding charge so it is scheduled for the tip.

Fitted the cheapest battery I could find in a local motorfactors, 3 year warranty and saved myself £120 on the price of a new Optima. (Checked the alternator and it is charging fine so no idea why the Optima died so suddenly)
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups....

I normally use a Transit diesel battery from local factors. If I'm stuck for space or need a Gel style battery I have used Varleys in the past . You need to check the specs carefully as Gel style suffer from huge power losses in the cold weather.

Don't connect to intelligent trickle chargers and leave over winter, lost 2 that way.
