    When you have it off, file out the centre until it is a sliding fit before replacing. You may have to do the stud holes as well. I did this on some Ford in the past, Granada, I think.
    The problem I had was the edge of the centre hole was rolled outwards so as I pulled the drum it 'turned' the lip inwards and held tighter.

    Good luck.
    ooohhh... One of my Bugs di exactly that... splines on the rear drums had rolled and just dug in, made worse by a spring having come off the shoes so they rolled when I pulled the hub and bit.

    A slide hammer is what you need, I bought one and it has MORE than paid for its self.

    Quick update for you !

    Finally had a chance to get back at the job this weekend thanks to my good chum Phil and his dry smooth-floored barn (As opposed to my wet gravel car park) . No sign of any spire clips or otherwise on the studs , tried some release spray and some heat all to no avail so went with the tried and trusted method of beating the **** out of them with a drift and hammer from the rear

    This earned us about 5mm of outward movement , which was disappointing considering the bruised fingers from upside-down hammer weilding so we decided to pop the halfshaft out for a better look at things . Lo and behold this revealed a 5mm gap between the hub face and the drum , just enough to get a pry bar in and pop the bugger off the shoes , result !

    So , one side done with only minimal searching around for parts that go ping and we jack the other side up and use the same method . Well the drum couldn't wait to get off the hub , almost fell off on its own it did , fantastic thinks I ! Until I notice that the reason it slid off so easily was because everything was soaked in brake fluid that had escaped from the leaky wheel cylinder hiding inside . Arse . And I didn't have a new wheel cylinder to hand and we couldn't get one because it was 4pm on a Bank Holiday Sunday . Double arse .

    Hey ho , I'll get that sorted tomorrow I guess then we're rolling (And more importantly stopping) again . So if you need to get the drums off a P100 rear axle thats how you do it ;

    Wheel off

    Halfshaft out

    Tap from the back to open up a gap between the drum and the hub

    Prybar in that gap and off she pops

    Hope that helps someone else do the job without all the pain

    Trouble was there's nothing to attach the slide hammer too Dave , unless you had a really big puller to fit the outside of the drum and pushing on the centre of the halfshaft , and if you had that I guess you'd use the really big puller you already had
