    painting a steering wheel

    has anybody painted a steering wheel with success? im looking to make a small banjo wheel for the T.

    how did you prep it and what paint did you use? i dont want it flaking off after a month or two

    Well prepped and celly spraycans, still looked good over 10 years on. It's all in getting it spotlessly clean /degreased and the a good key.

    I painted one years back with the same paint that I used on the rest of the car - Cannons Re-paint at the time, brush paint... presumably any good paint would do as long as properly prepared. Painted the wheel orange ( ) so any wear would have shown badly but mine was still good years after I sold the car.

    Sorry, should have said - normal prep but as I was brushing the paint I finished the prep with a slightly coarser grade than usual. I also filed out some cracks in the wheel and made good using chemical metal which remained good.

    i was thinking of clean and etch, high build primer rubbed back to take out imperfections then two pack

    That'll work Ifan just be as clean as possible and you won't have too much trouble, I've done steering wheels this way and they look great

    or you could be inventive and go the smoke and lacquer route to make it look like wood !! ( unless its wood already )
