    Pinion nut

    I forgot to count turns whilst undoing pinion nut when I changed the seal,How critical is it and what to do next, thanks Stock 100e

    fairly critical in a new build but you can get away with it. Issue is the sleeve is already compressed, so tightening again without compressing further is difficult. Assuming you only changed the pinion seal and not the bearing, whack some RTV on the pinion spines and seat the flange (oil can leak down the splines). Second, clean the pinion threads with brake cleaner, apply red thread lock, spin the nut on, snug it up and only nip it with a small bar, rotate the flange 2-3 time check it doesn't tighten any more. Don't swing on it, just tighen as much as you can without resorting to excessive leverage. Stake the pinion nut to lock it in place. You "should" be ok but listen out for any rumbling or whining. alternatively pull it and set it up on the bench with a torque dial and new sleeve.
