A Pinto will go in with stock steering, but the starter and drag link/ idler arm want to share the same space. You can get round this by adjusting one side in and one out to reset straight and the stops and clear the foul, but you finish up with the turning circle of a tanker!
A modified Escort X member with rack and pinion and Capri struts modded 100E TCA's and anti roll bar ( mine is the Old Ford Services set up) works well.
Pinto's are getting hard to find nowadays, I have seen a Ztech in a 100E without cutting the bulkhead

I'm in Hemel, Herts and doing the same conversion, got all the Alachi kit if you want to have a look before buying.

There are thing you need to consider before parting with your cash. The Alachi stuff is really race spec, rod ends, compression struts, spherical top mounts, high poundage springs required, engine mounts are a little hard etc. The old Ford stuff looks more suited to a road set up in my opinions, so you need to decide whether you want a slammed well handling car or just updated brakes and steering. If its the latter, but there are cheaper ways of doing it all.

The Alachi bulkhead and tunnel are nice bits if you don't have access to a folder and the chap Alan Dent who sell it is a nice guy, very helpful with advice etc.

Personally I'd bin the auto box too, you'll have nice torquey motor and RWD set up for a bit of controlled sideways action, the auto box will make it dull. I've got a decent 4 speed box going cheap if you're interested.
