Positive earth / battery charger connection

I’ve just bought a classic that has a 12 volt positive earth system. It is fitted with battery cut out switch (the common, red key type thing)

I want to connect a battery conditioner to it so if I ensure the cut out is off (key out) do I connect up the ‘conditioner as if the battery was out of the car, ie ignoring the positive earth strap as I would be using the positive battery post as positive / negative as negative for the charger/conditioner.

The reason I ask is they are clamped battery connections and I don’t want to have to remove the clamps to isolate the battery totally as is hard to get at behind the seat. Is using the battery cut out the same as in does it totally isolate the battery from the car.?

The battery positive cable is obviously connected as an earth and I am going to put on a positive battery charger connector on the post. And it just don’t look right.
I’ve confused myself, my mates who I have phoned so does anyone know where I am coming from LOL.

you're overthinking it mate. the battery pos' (+) and neg' (-) are still pos' and neg' whichever way round the battery is connected in the car. red charger lead to pos' (+) terminal on battery and black to neg' (-) terminal on battery, same as normal.
    neil.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

I didn't switch it on but the pic is the only way the battery conditioner would work. Other way gave the incorrectly connected signal
