I wouldn't spend too much time fhinking it the conv/cam causing the stalling, the stuff is almost stock.
Idle circuits or timing is maybe the problem.
I run (for 15years) a '500 inch solid cam in a 383ci with stock conv and 3.23 gears, goes 12.70s in a 3500lb car with a 650cfm d/p.
Another pic from Shaky
What is the car mate? is it a commander? Im not up on studebakers. Its so radical looking, i love that nose.
Iv got a 1928 Erskine in storage in bits that belonged to my old man, among a few other vintage cars.
Yeah racing gets pretty addictive! Your Evo must have been super quick? My '71 vette is way quicker than the Stude, that's the quick one, the Stude is a cruiser and i'll only get a bit more out of her with sensible mods, 13.5 will be about the end of it.
It's a '51 Champion Starlight Coupe. The rear window is what makes it a Starlight. They did a 4 door, a 2 door sedan, 2 door starlight and a 2 door business coupe (3 person coupe) with a bench seat,oh and a convertible.
The Starlight is the most desirable (other than the convertible) and distinctive shape, although we had a business coupe and it's actually a nicer flowing car than the Starlight. We were going to sell the Starlight and mod the Business coupe at one point but the blue one has had so much money and parts throw at it that it'd work out very expensive to do the red one (business coupe).
Here's how the blue one looked originally
Here's the business coupe we had.
The Commander is bigger and not as nice IMHO.
The 50 and 51 Champions (bullet nosed studes) look the same but are very different and not much is interchangeable on the front ends
I see what you mean about the coupe flowing better, the starlight looks a little like its got two front ends lol. Such an interesting design though, like a 40's plane. I really like it.
Cars come a long way since you had it. Im now looking on ebay for one lol.
Yeah, it's based on the P38 fighter (amongst other things)
The business coupe would make a great pro tourer, we were going to put a big wing on the back like a top fueler!
What's in your collection Jay? That Erskine is an oldy, any plans for it?
