Just wondering; if it says on the box of a rev counter that it's for a 4 cylinder engine, what would happen if you hooked it up to a 6 or 8 cylinder engine? Nothing or, sparks and a burning smell kinda thing?

'Accessory' Rev counters I have had over the years have always had a little switch to select what pistons ya got.
Just got a lovely little un from CBS with the selector.
Doubt it could go fizz pop bang, just not work!?

Smashing. Thanks Jim.
you can always get it converted to whatever engine you have.i once had a mk1 cortina rev counter converted to 8 cylinder.
It'll just read high as it's getting more 'pulses' from the ignition system. if used on an 8 cyl' engine it'll read twice the revs you're doing for example, On a 6 just half as much again as it should read.
Neil.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.
