I have to cut out a trans crossmember flush to the rails in order to install a new one. I have to do this lying underneath the car bearing in mind the floor is 1" above the crossmember so not much area to work with. No plasma cutter here. Wondering what power tool will do the job. Any photo you could post of the tool to use?

Thin cutting disc in angle grinder to cut it out then dress back to the rails with grinding disc and a flap wheel to finish.
Air saw ,no sparks then
Go with the air saw - you can make a blade (trimmed hacksaw if no std size suits) a little longer than the x-member so it doesn't hit the floor or run too short when reciprocating. Just done this with limited space round an exhaust (and no sparks!).
