£600 for all the bits you mentioned....damn sight cheaper than a worn out 305 chevy..
as wayne says more wow factor...isnt rodding about being unique..?
and like the turbo r motors going to be caned by its old owner..chances are its going to be good and strong...
i drove a turbo r once..pretty quick for a 300 ton boat...think what its going to be like in a lightweight car...

Go for it! They are strong motors and take an increase in boost quite well. There was one running in Bentley Drivers Club sprint and race events a few years ago run by Phantom Motor Cars Ltd. The downside is that genuine parts are eyewateringly expensive.... The non-turbo engines had a very mild cam and were rated at 200 to 240 bhp and no after market tuning bits so you'd have to resort to oldfashioned diy mods and a reground cam.

The turbo engine will be happy with a mild cam.

you said it'd be the basis of a drag truck, but if no tuning bits are available without having stuff made then as mantioned it will be horrendously expensive. it becomes clear why they're not used more. if you just want to up the boost a bit then that's fine but think twice about using it if big upgrades are the plan. the yank stuff becomes a bargain to tune after the initial purchase price. also consider a 460 ford instead of a bbc, cheaper to buy and not much different to tune. big stroker kits are cheap and will give very good results.
    just some things to consider.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

I've had a quick look around at parts like gaskets, alternator, water pumps and such like, seem about the same as Chevy parts.

The basic engine V8 has stayed pretty much the same since the 60's and there does seem to be the parts around. In fact i think people dont know what to do with them. The place near me has 4, he said they have been there 5 years and hardly any parts taken, so I'll be ok for parts for a few years and i think if i can get it all running it would be fairly built proof running gear. That's what i need to look at they have been stood outside for 5 years , so have the choice of 2 turbo engines, one is a carb turbo (blow through) its old school simple stuff a massive alloy box with a 4 barrel solex carb inside, whole thing pressurised, the other is injection, so might give that a miss and go for the carb model. Ive found a website in the US where they fit Holley carbs on rollers, so that might be a better starting point to have the supply of jets etc. The standard turbo doesnt have an intercooler either, so with a bit more boost there's another possible power increase. The truck ( C10 63 LWB) weigh approx 1600kg, the Bentley 2400kg and produces 325BHP, so truck running 800kg less, plus of course the weight of the added Bentley engine, say another 400kg back in, so still 400kg down on the Bentley, hmmmmm
