rover p6 starter motor

i need a new starter motor for a rover v8, its from a p6, local parts shops need a car reg to look, so that's no good, ebay shows lots for land rovers at £60, but p6 is £235 , do others fit as don't want to pay nearly £200 more for something the same???
solenoid is at the bottom of the starter, anyone know a good place to get one??

You could always search for Rover P6 V8 on google images, bound to be a few pics show reg plates

SD1 V8 has the solenoid at the bottom as well.

The later 3500 starters will fit, I use one on my P6. Much lighter than the original one.

I'm in a similar position. How did you sort yours out? Did you go for the £49 SDi one?

P6 has a different solenoid as it runs a cold start system on the coil . This isn't fitted on SD1 as it has electronic ignition module.
