Rover SD1 V8 Auto Starter Motor question...

Morning all, I have a Rover SD1 engine that requires a new starter motor. I know that if I was to be using the SD1 exhaust fannymoulds I would have to buy a SD1 starter motor due to the solenoid location, but I am using Landrover headers so can I fit a landrover starter motor or are the bolt holes different?

    Thanks in advance.

depends on the gearbox - I have an SD1 with a BW65 and it needs a SD1 starter to work - Range Rover bolts up fine but you spin it and it wont engage on the ring gear - guessign range rover has bigger ring gear. - thats my limited knowledge.

    I thought so too

I fitted a P38 starter to my P6 engine no trouble. Works fine.

All RV8 ring gears are the same diameter whether it's fitted to a flywheel or an auto flex plate.

The starter bolts to the engine block so gearbox type makes no difference.

Provide the chassis or exhaust clears the starter and solenoid then you can fit either type of starter.

However, the later starters DO NOT have a connection for a ballast resistor but this problem can be overcome by the use of a relay.

    Regards Denis
