rover v8 timing and firing order

Just managed to get my v8 fired up but after switching 1 and 8 around. All the ads 180. But no 1 cylinder was at TDC and the rotor arm to no 1 cylinder. Why the hell didn't it fire!!!!!!!!

It would seem I was wrong and Kingy was right...

Would anyone care to shed any light on the subject??

    Thanks in advance

Firing. Both valves were shut. I've took the dizzy out and stuck the rotor a 180 and put the leads back to its original position. Ive never been wrong bit somethings stumped me.

I'm confused by this post ? You mention stuff about re setting the rotor position and putting the leads back to their original position. But I cant see any comments about this above? The firing order for your Rover should be 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
The common mistake is to fit the plug leads with 5 and 7 mixed up.

If your number one cylinder was TDC on a compression stroke and you had all the plug leads fitted correctly it should have fired up assuming you had fuel and spark ?

If you had to swap 1 and 8 leads to get it to start did you just have these two leads in the wrong holes in the dissy cap?

On most RV8 engines with a dissy number one plug cap on the dissy faces almost to the front of the engine. Have you done a proper TDC check on number 1 cylinder with a TDC tool to mkae sure you know the true TDC of number 1 cylinder?

It would appear I had it on a exhaust stroke. My rushing the other night had caused me a slight cock up.

As to the rotor arm. I pulled the dizzy out and spun it 180. No 1 lead is now point back toward the front of the motor.

Just a few fuel leaks to sort and it should be ok

No I haven't got hoses sorted yet but I stuffed he garden hose down the hole while it had a few fire ups. The headers need gaskets but all the time I spent a making them and I don't like the sound. What to do
