starters are the same in terms of teeth, the differencing is where it is located on the engine block staggerd, or straight mount. I have universal starters which fit either fitment.
The shimming of the teeth for fit is the most important part.

thanks for the replys, i have a early 327, i bought a 153 tooth flex plate as i had a new starter and 153 flex plate was on the engine that the starter came of, on closer inspection the new starter i have iv found has a crack in it, so it may not be the right one?, i have looked at the real steel page but it has several starters so which one do ineed, aid my block has stagered and straight holes so both starters will fit, the starter i have has no hole to leaver the cog forward to start shimming
