The Salisbury 4HA casing has straight parallel tubes, so isn't especially difficult to narrow the case. The splines on the halfshafts are pround of the halfshaft end, so it would be difficult to respline them. CPS drivelink (up Gateshead way) will cut and friction weld your shafts. This cost about £125 per shaft a couple of years ago

if its an early axle the hubs are on a taper on the shaft so would be easier to re-machine the tapered end than cut splines.

trevd looking at the Graham Walker diagram there is a shoulder just behind the taper which I take the bearing presses on to hold the shaft in. Though I suppose you could weld a new sleeve on in place of that on a shortened shaft to do the same job.

In the photo below there is a Scimitar 4HA shaft on the right. There is a collar to retain the taper roller wheel bearing. However, as the bearing surface is also the largest part of the shaft on the ones I've seen, turning a new taper, cutting a new keyway and screwcutting a new thread would still require a sleeve with a new bearing surface and collar to be shrunk onto the shaft. The "new" bearing surface would probably still require finish machining afterwards to get the bearing fit spot on.

Have done quite a few new taper, keyway and screwcut thread jobs on early Austin halfshafts in the past. It takes the best part of a couple of hours per shaft on those, even doing them in small batches.

I would second using an MGB axle as, weirdly, with very little machining you can fit 9” Ford internals in one
