secondaries not squirting - should they?

i have an edelbrock 1405 carb on my sbc and at the moment under full load, the engine is struggling to pull.
when looking down into the carb and opening the throttle by hand, fuel squirts out of the primaries, like they should. when the secondaries open, no fuel squirts out. should it? or does it need vacuum or air flow with the engine running?

i have stripped the carb and cant see any blockages.

you won't get a squirt as such from the secondaries as they don't have accelerator pump jets like the primaries.
need a job done on your project? i may be able to help.

You put a paperclip on their linkage that will move as a flag to let you know if they are opening and how far.

they open. they are mechanical. it was the flow of fuel from them that i was questioning.

aren't the edelbrock carbs basically a carter afb? i thought they had needles that somehow worked to open like some kind of air door seperate to the secondary butterflies? i like holley's, they're simple.
    neil.

I thought it was weighted butterfly's on secondaries!? Not near car so guessing from memory lol and only open when enough vacuum and thus having the gumpf to draw more gas!?!? Maybe not on a 1405!?

Getting back to problem, maybe it ain't the secondaries!?
    Fuel pressure, timing etc...

Kind of Agree with Jim on this one ( also might be worth running the engine on nearly full throttle) while standing over it. ( careful tho) but that should also tell you how the carbs performing...
