It does get complicated especially in a situation where the prop runs uphill from the gearbox to the diff where you also have to take into account working angles as they change totally compared with prop down to axle .

However if the diff and box flange are equal and opposite then the offset should still be self cancelling as diff noses are usually offset anyway.

On one of mine my working hours is reduced to about 10% of full amount but still amounts to about 3 years of continuous driving Steep working angle on mine is generated by two piece prop with too short rear section for maximum efficiency but that's what I'm stuck with.

    Recommended speed/angle limits

It is a hugely technical area Vince . All this stuff is only scratching the surface, you also need to work out o/d of tube and size of joint to expected torque usage.

Once you get into engine box lower than diff it gets again into a different set of 'what ifs' . Hi-rider is a doddle by comparison !

can i high jack this thread and ask how critical is the matching of the two angles(gearbox/diff) can you be + or - 1*? or does it have to be exact?

Most say within .5 bearing in mind that on a live axle the diff nose will be moving up and down with the suspension. Don't rget it is dfficult to set accurately unless you have the suspension locked at finished ride height as the weight of glass interiors etc will make the diff nose angle change ( except on IRS).
