    sbc cam selection

    Hi All
looking for a bit of advice on a cam for my sbc.
It is a 93 centre bolt rocker cover with carter carb and edelbrock inlet manifold.I am looking for something with a bit of a lumpy idle and torque more than top end speed .
Any advice or recommendations would be great.

We'd need to know a lot more.
What car is it in? How heavy?
Manual or Auto? If auto, what stall torque converter?
    Gearing?
    Intended usage?
Whats the spec of the rest of the engine? Stock?

Is that Engine presently using a factory roller camshaft set up ?A very general answer to your question is Be very conservative with your choice of camshaft, Road use only = tick over to 4500 RPM ,( Maybe a little more occasionally),The Comp Cams Thumper cams that have a bad reputation on many forums, may well be just what your Automatic with most probably a standard Torque converter needs .

I have no personal experience of the Thumper camshafts , what is said about the Thumper range of Camshafts is they are really only to make an impressive sound and that many other camshaft grinds are available that will beat them" hands down " when it comes to producing more power , for the same money. My observation is the " other" camshafts usually need a Converter and carb. and Distributor improvements too .

I like the summit 111R I think is the part number as a pretty good all round cam. Not wild but you can use 1.6:1 rockers on the intake side to wake it up if needs be.
1955-56-57 Chevy new and used parts always available from www.randrhotrodimports.co.uk who I'm proud to have sponsor my '57 Chevy race car. 9.3 @ 155.8 mph / 0-60 = 1.47 seconds! Street legal :-)

edelbrock performer cam kit with (as adam says) 1.6 rockers will be good with stock box and convertor.
