    SBC centre bolt heads

I'm replacing one SBC with another.
The last one had normal heads, replacement engine has centre bolt heads.

Question is, will my same inlet manifold fit?

I notice that the new heads have the bolts in the middle at an angle, with the others about 90 degrees to the surface. Previous heads had all inlet manifold bolts at 90 degrees.
I may live in East London, I may have a number plate that reads "Chopt", but I do NOT use 6" wheel spacers!

Sounds like Vortec heads, some people use non Vortec intakes by grollying out the holes. You should really buy a Vortec-compatible manifold but we're all cheapskates at heart so what have you got to lose by playing with stuff? HTH

Maybe I'm just sick in the head.

As above but they you can get centre bolt heads that us e a normal intake. L98/113 heads use a normal intake but are centre bolt. Vortec heads use Vortec intake unless you drill the holes as Test or Kill says.

    Post the head number.

i've fitted an early (up to '86) inlet on a later ('87 on centre bolt valve covers) engine mate. as martin says above i just elongated the holes as the bolts are at a different angle. it all worked fine with no leaks so i'd do it again if it's what i had.
    neil.

    Thanks y'all for the info.

    Head numbers are:

    14102183 (or maybe 93)
Also one head has "GM24" and the other has "GM21".

If they are Vortec heads, does that raise the comp ratio on a 305?

    These are not Vortec heads.
Vortec head numbers ends with 062 or 906

Are you sure it's not 14102188?
    1988-93 - 14102188 - 350 - 1.94 - 1.5001 - 76CC - EFI, swirl port

Sorry to say, but swirls port heads are not a very good starting point for a performance build.
They are very restrictive to give a high speed on the air/fuel mix on low rpm's, but because of the restrictive channels, run out of air around 4000 rpm's.

I was told that they are big valve heads, I think with all the various issues I will probably just put it all together and see how it goes.
As Neil says, the blower will help push more mixture through whatever.

    1.94/1.5 valves

14102193 Details - Casting Numbers .info: engine blocks, heads, and more

Also be aware that restrictive intake channels makes the blower work harder wich would heat up the air temperature.
And hot intake air could lead to detonation.
