    SBC idiot lights

The Bodge wiring is coming together nicely, but now I need to add in some new bits. I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge (looks to come off the back of the block below the alternator on the left side of the engine) but I want to add in an oil warning idiot light: I presume an SBC (unknown vintage) has a pressure switch somewhere. Any clues where I should be looking? I have a ¼" blade terminal on the right hand side at the front, just behind the alternator, which I suspect is the beast. Does is short to ground on no pressure, and go open circuit above a threshold?

Sorry for the dumb questions, but Chevy is new to me...

If you have a pressure sensor it would be unlikely to have a switch as well , you would have to add one in

There would always have been an idiot light for oil pressure, surely?

There was. From front of engine look at behind rear of inlet on rght hand side to the right and below the dizzy. Sender screws into back of block there (points upwards). If you want to fit a guage & light then you will need a T peice.

    Kustom Jim is online now

    Thumbs up

That little outlet thing is too small and fragile for my liking!

I gingerly nipped up a rubbery tube fitting and piped in to car to an oil gauge.
Not tight enough LOL tube popped off and a quart of Valvoline decorated the firewall.
    Smells nice though

that fitting in the blok is 1/8 NPT and is bitch to fit standard gauge fitting into. You can get extended T piece's which you can put a oil light sensor on and a take off ofr a gauge.
