    SBC ignition timing issue

Hi I wonder if anyone can help a novice please?

Sorry been out of the scene for a year or two!!

I have a 51 Chevy pick up with a 350 sbc with electronic ignition and all was running well apart from it was 'running on' for a few seconds after turning the engine off.

I had a friend come round with his timing light to set up the ignition timing. The problem we have is on the bottom pulley (thinks it's a damper) the only markings we can find to try and line up with the markers for TDC etc are 3 small lines with what looks like a number 3 against the middle one.

Is one of these lines what we need?

Sorry if this either isn't clear or has been asked before!!

Yes I have the chrome plate with advance and regard settings and couldn't see anything else apart from 3 lines of what I think is a damper about 1/4" apart and looks like a number 3 next to middle line?

Unfortunately I think your best bet is to find TDC and put a new timing tape on.
It's difficult to trust timing marks at the best of times.
When I put new heads on the SBC in the Stude I checked the damper at TDC and the marks were way out.
It's a bit of a pain but you'll know the timing is spot on once you've done it.

Thanks mate looks like that will be what I'll have to do then. I guess it's a bit more time but worthwhile!
